A preventive or therapeutic agent for rheumatism that being free from side effects as brought about by steroids, methotrexates, gold preparations, etc., excels in safety and is capable of realizing the prevention and treatment of rheumatism in a simple manner. Further, there are provided, ingested for the prevention and treatment of rheumatism, a beverage, soft beverage, health beverage, beverage for specified health use, food, health food and food for specified health use. In particular, there is provided a rheumatism preventive or therapeutic agent, or beverage, or food comprising reduced-deuterium water as an active ingredient. These agent, beverage and food would attain the prevention and treatment of rheumatism through drinking of a given amount of reduced-deuterium water, especially reduced-deuterium water of 0 to 100 ppm deuterium concentration, for a given period of time, or through ingestion of food having the reduced-deuterium water incorporated therein.
