<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new colorant exhibiting high conversion efficiency when used in a dye-sensitized solar battery, and to provide a dye-sensitized solar battery using the colorant. <P>SOLUTION: The colorant includes a structure represented by formula (1). In formula (1), M is a group (8-10) element of the long periodic table; L<SP>1</SP>and L<SP>2</SP>are a specific ligand; Z is a unidentate ligand or a univalent group; n is 2-m (wherein m is a coordination number of L<SP>1</SP>); and e1 is formal charge of the structure represented by formula (1).
