PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve picture quality without enlarging a vertical transfer path even in a low sensitivity photographing mode. SOLUTION: The digital camera comprises a solid-state image sensor in which the signal electric charges accumulated in a plurality of PDs arranged in row direction and column direction that is orthogonal to it on a semiconductor substrate, are read into a vertical transfer path extending in the column direction, and the signal electric charges are transferred in the column direction along the vertical transfer path. It includes a low sensitivity photographing mode for photographing at a relatively low sensitivity, and a high sensitivity photographing mode for photographing at a relatively high sensitivity. The digital camera comprises a mechanical shutter for controlling shielding of light incident on the solid-state imaging element, and a driving part 4 that reads and transfers the signal electric charges from each of the plurality of PDs at two separate times during the period when the mechanical shutter shields light in the low sensitivity photographing mode.
