PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens system with which a function is provided to obtain a distance to the object to be photographed, a focal distance and a stop value from the focus position of a photographing lens, a zoom position and the stop position and output the information (lens information) as meta-data to an external equipment such as a recorder or the like and when an externally mounted extender is mounted onto the photographing lens, a function is provided to obtain a distance to the object to be photographed for the entire photographing optical system including the extender, the focal distance and the stop value and output the information as the meta-data so that correction work or the like of the meta-data by a user caused by the mounting of the extender is made unnecessary. SOLUTION: When the extender is mounted on a photographing lens 10, a CPU60 of the lens system obtains the magnification of the extender from an encoder 68 of the photographing lens 10. Then, a distance to the object to be photographed of the photographing lens 10, a focal distance and a stop value are obtained based on the focus position, the zoom position and the stop position obtained from position sensors 62, 64 and 66 and the focal distance and the stop value are corrected in accordance with the magnification of the extender.
