<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound machine capable of switching over a mode efficiently while avoiding or suppressing deterioration of operability. <P>SOLUTION: If image data is received from other devices at the time of setting of a copy mode (YES at #1), a display control portion performs character displaying indicative of the fact on a display portion (#2). A function switching time setting portion starts time measurement (#3), and the display control portion displays the time to print-out execution for the received image data on the display portion (#4). If an extension key is operated (YES at #5), the function switching time setting portion extends a function switching time, and the display control portion changes a display time. Until a preset function switching time or the extended function switching time is past (NO at #7), a mode setting portion makes print-out of the received image data stand by (#8).
