[Also in Group XXXVI] The glass casing of e.g., a barrier layer diode or transistor is in at least two parts which are held together initially by a metal ring the parts and the ring being subsequently sealed together. As shown, a transistor is housed in a vessel 1 the cover 2 of which is secured to the vessel by a flanged ring 8. The ring and the two glass parts are then sealed together by induction heating. The ring, which may be of copper, chrome-iron or aluminium may be removed by etching or otherwise. |
