PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode wire for wire electric discharge machining which improves an electric discharge machining speed for executing fusion-cut between the electrode wire and an object to be machined by electric discharge, and is excellent in productivity compared with a conventional high-speed electrode wire and in recyclability of waste materials. SOLUTION: The electrode wire for wire electric discharge machining is composed of a binary system alloy of copper and zinc. Hot extrusion is executed to a round bar by using an alloy which is cast by blending copper and zinc at a prescribed ratio. After that, cold wire-drawing and annealing are executed step by step so that a crystal structure of a product, which is made into an electrode wire with the final wire diameter, is in the alternately uniform arrangement of anαphase and aβ' phase. Here, it is preferable that the average content of zinc per unit volume of the binary system alloy of copper and zinc is in the range of 41-44 %. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
