The machine room-less friction driven elevator has a counterweight and drive as well as at least three cable pulleys (2,3,5), a cable pulley (1) fitted on the counterweight (14), and a drive pulley (114), all installed on one side of the track of the elevator car (10) and in one plane. The rotational pivots of the cable pulleys installed in the shaft head, the cable pulley on the counterweight and the drive pulley are orientated parallel to one another, and the haulage gear (12) has at least two cables.
