摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce half shadow and uniformize dose distribution in the direction orthogonal to the beam traveling direction. <P>SOLUTION: This particle beam therapy apparatus 1 is provided with a charged particle beam generator 2 and a radiation field forming device 15. An ion beam from the charged particle beam generator 2 is radiated to an affected part 62 of a patient 61 by the radiation field forming device 15. A scattering compensator 34 and an RMW 24 (Range Modulation Wheel) are integrally connected together and provided in the upstream side of the beam traveling direction, and the scattering compensator 34 and the RMW 24 are moved along a beam axis (m). The movement of the scattering compensator 34 and the RMW 24 adjusts the dimension of the ion beam incident on a scatterer device 18 and consequently adjusts a change in the scattering extent of the ion beam in the scatterer device 18. This constitution can reduce the half shadow and uniformize the dose distribution in the direction orthogonal to the beam traveling direction in the affected part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
