The device has a sealing unit placed towards output of a shaft (8) of a pinion (3). The sealing unit is constituted by a metallic core (11) supporting an elastically deformable ring (12). A circular part (14) is installed on a tubular part (2b) of a hood (2). The part is deformed towards the tubular part to axially stop the core of the sealing unit and to maintain a rolling bearing (10) in place.
