A data processing apparatus for automatically identifying a change in an observed scene. The apparatus is configured to segment an image of the scene into a plurality of segments each comprising a plurality of image elements. A change in intensity of a segment relative to the intensity of that segment in a preceding image is identified, and is determined if the intensity in said segment exceeds its threshold value. |
