To provide a mixed oxide-pillared layered silicate catalyst which is safe, economic and environment friendly, has an extended life and increases conversion ratio of cyclohexanone oxime and yield of epsilon-caprolactam in vapor phase Beckmann conversion reaction of cyclohexanone oxime, a method for preparing the same, and a method for preparing epsilon-caprolactam from cyclohexanone oxime using the catalyst. The layered silicate catalyst is characterized in that a mixed oxide of silicon oxide and metal oxide is pillared between layers of layered silicate compound, wherein the layered silicate compound is selected from the group consisting of ilerite(Na2Si8O17.xH2O), kanemite(NaHSi2O5.H2O), magadiite(Na2Si14O29.11H2O), makatite(Na2Si4O9.5H2O) and kenyaite(Na2Si20O41.11H2O), wherein the mixed oxide is a mixture of a metal oxide selected from the group consisting of tantalum oxide(Ta2O5), niobium oxide(Nb2O5), molybdenum oxide(Mo2O3, MoO3) and tungsten oxide(WO3), and silicon oxide(SiO2), wherein the metal oxide is contained in the pillared mixed oxide at an amount of 0.5 to 15 wt.%, wherein the mixed oxide is pillared in the layered silicate at an amount of 3 to 25 wt.%, wherein a BET surface area of the layered silicate catalyst is 200 to 800 m^2/g.
