<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an onboard unit for an automatic charge collecting system to prevent a vehicle from entering the gate of a toll gate while a recording medium is not inserted. <P>SOLUTION: This onboard unit for an automatic charge collecting system is provided with a toll gate distance calculation part 25 which calculates a distance to a toll gate from current location information and toll gate information, a toll gate distance determination part 26 which determines whether or not the calculated distance to the toll gate is within a predetermined range, an IC card detection part 32 which detects whether or not an IC card is stored in an IC card storage part 11 and a warning part 33 which issues warning when the distance to the toll gate is within the predetermined distance, and the IC card is not detected. When the IC card is not present in the IC card storage part 11, a user is made to notice that it is not ready by the warning.
