<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly position an inversion unit to an image forming apparatus main body or a fixing unit without being affected by heat with a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 10 comprises; the image forming apparatus main body 12 having a recording device 20 which transfers an image to paper P; a fixing unit 38 having a fixing device 40, which communicates with the image forming apparatus main body 12 and heats and fixes the image transferred to the paper P by the recording device 20; and the inverting unit 60 which inverts the paper P with the image fixed thereon and supplies it to the image forming apparatus main body 12. In addition, the image forming apparatus 10 has: first communicating ports 56 and 70 through which the fixing unit 38 and the inverting unit 60 communicate with each other and the paper P is passed; second communicating ports 52 and 72 through which the inverting unit 60 and the image forming apparatus main body 12 communicate with each other and the paper P is passed.
