PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize, save weight of, and thin a magnetic material detecting device 1. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a magnet 12 capable of displacing in a linear direction and a Hall IC 14 for detecting the displacement of the magnet 12. An iron piece 28 takes on a strong magnetism when it is positioned within a given distance from a body of the magnetic material detecting device 1, and the magnet 12 is attracted to be displaced toward the iron piece 28 side. Therefore, when a displacement of the magnet 12 is detected by the Hall IC 14, it can be detected that the iron piece 28 is positioned within the given distance from the body of the magnetic substance detecting device 1.
