PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device in which lubricating oil in the bearing of a spindle motor can be warmed and starting torque of the spindle motor can be reduced without providing a special heating means. SOLUTION: When the power source of the magnetic disk device is supplied, a control IC 12 compares temperature of a spindle motor (SPM) 2 read from a temperature sensor 11 with SPM start enabling lowest limit temperature. When the temperature of SPM 2 is lower than the SPM start enabling lowest limit temperature, the IC control IC12 send dummy data for encoding processing and decoding processing to a read/write channel IC7 for the prescribed time, and instructs the read/write channel IC7 to execute dummy calculation. Since the read/write channel IC7 generates heat by executing this dummy calculation and this heat generation of the IC7 is transmitted to the spindle motor 2 via a metallic body 13, temperature of lubricating oil of the spindle motor 2 is raised, viscosity of the lubrication oil becomes low, and starting torque is reduced.
