The inventive rotary engagement lock mechanism for automatic safety cutout comprises a hinge release bar (3), an intermediate lever (8), an engagement lever (18), holding means (26, 30) and an actuator (36). Said intermediate lever (8) is provided with a stop surface (15) and when the mechanism is in a contact position, said holding means (26, 30) hold the engagement lever (18) in a position wherein the engagement surface (22) thereof and the stop surface (15) define a receptacle having convergent walls which form an abutment (39) against which the release bar (3) is pushed. The engagement surface (22) is formed in such a way that the normal thereto is oriented in each point thereof towards the pivot axis (17) of the engagement lever (18).
