PURPOSE:To water cool an iron pipe in a short time without causing bending and ellipse, etc., by rolling the iron pipe after heat treatment on falling gradient course, dropping down and dipping it into a water tank at temp. of <=Ar1 transformation point, then taking it out at temp. of <=boiling point of water. CONSTITUTION:The iron pipe 2 after heat treatment rolled down on falling gradient course of a wheel base 1, is dropped down into the water tank 5 from a notch part 3 of the base 1 at temp. of <=Ar1 transformation point. The pipe 2 is guided in the tank 5 by a guide plate 6, received by a V-shaped dent part 12 formed by an arm main body 10 of a turning arm 8 and a part 11 protruded upward, to hold and dip it. Thereafter, the pipe 2 is taken out from the tank 5 by turning the arm 8 around a supporting shaft 9 through a lever 14 by operating an air cylinder 13 at <=100 deg.C, rolled on the body 10 for transfer on to the base 1 and carrying out.
