<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of generating pulses having a large amplitude and short duration to be applied to a column or a row so as to enhance luminous efficiency of a PDP (plasma display panel). <P>SOLUTION: The method comprises the following steps of: applying a DC voltage to both the terminals of a solenoid (L) so that the solenoid stores current, during a first phase; applying a voltage with amplitude A to both the terminals of the capacitor of the PDP columns and discharging a part of the current stored in the solenoid to the capacitor up to the point where the voltage of both the terminals of the columns of the display reaches the amplitude A, during a second phase; maintaining the voltage with amplitude A at both the terminals of the display columns so as to generate a discharge current between the columns and the rows of the PDP cells in a write state and bringing the current stored in the solenoid to zero, during a third phase; charging the solenoid with the current stored in the capacitors of the PDP columns until the voltage of both the terminals of the latter becomes zero, during a fourth phase; bringing the current stored in the solenoid to zero, during a fifth phase. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
