<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device whose manufacturing cost can be reduced while minimizing an array error. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a gate wire which is formed on a lower insulating substrate and includes a gate electrode, a gate insulating film which is formed on the gate wire, a semiconductor layer which is formed on the gate insulating film, a data line which is formed on the semiconductor layer and connected to a source electrode facing a drain electrode above the gate electrode, a protection film which is formed on the gate insulating film, a plurality of color filters which are formed on the protection film and whose peripheral parts overlap with one another above the data line, a thin film transistor display plate which is formed above the color filters and includes a pixel electrode electrically connected to the drain electrode, an upper insulating substrate made of a material having physically or chemically different characteristics as compared with the lower insulating substrate, and a counter display plate which faces a common electrode formed above the upper insulating substrate facing the lower insulating substrate.
