PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fall of a locking member of a pin in replacement work of link rods, and to easily find the fall. SOLUTION: A variable valve system comprises: a drive cam fixed to an outer circumference of a drive shaft; and a rocker arm having one end linked with the drive cam through a link arm. The rocker arm is rockably supported by an outer peripheral face of a control cam fixed to an outer circumference of a control shaft, and has the other end rotatably connected with an oscillating cam driving an intake valve with pins 20, 21 through a link rod. A relatively large metal plate like the locking member 22 for preventing the pin 21 from coming off in the replacement work of the link rods is detachably mounted to a cam bearing 11 on a cylinder head 1 with bolts 16.
