PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact type image sensor using a plurality of line sensors and an image reader using the same which eliminates the need of both a high assembling accuracy and the work for adjusting the mounting position of each line sensor in an image reader using a plurality of line sensors. SOLUTION: The image sensor has engaging parts at both sides in the scanning direction of its body so that the image sensors mutually engage with their engaging parts. The two image sensors mutually engage with their engaging parts into a line sensor with the image sensors partly overlapped in the scanning direction. The engaging part is composed of a protrusion and a recess so formed as to fit the protrusion of one image sensor body in the recess of the other image sensor body. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
