PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing irritation on the surface of a body, especially skin or mucosa caused by a chemical substance, and a detergent composition having a low irritation and a good cleansing power. SOLUTION: This detergent composition containing a surfactant is characterized by containing at least one kind selected from the following (a) to (d), as a method for reducing the irritation caused by the detergent. (a) A substance having a protein-dehydrating activity. (b) A substance having an astringent taste. (c) A substance having a film-forming function. (d) A substance having a vasoconstricting activity.
