PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device which is adaptive to all of a video signal having a vertical synchronizing frequency of 24 Hz of a motion picture film, a video signal of a 2-3 pull-down system and a video signal of a television system by driving a display element of a matrix system at approximately 120 Hz and provides picture quality not lower than that of the original motion picture film. SOLUTION: The television signals of the 2-3 pull-down system are detected 23 to obtain the video signals of 24 frames of the original motion picture film by a sequential scanning conversion circuit 24. The video signals of the 24 frames are thereafter written in memories 16 and 17 and are read out at 120 Hz of a memory control circuit 19, by which the video signals are made into integer times (5 times) the video signals of the original motion picture film to drive a display panel 15.
