PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decreasing the content of non-bonded glyoxal in a polysaccharide derivative treated with glyoxal. SOLUTION: The derivative is treated with an aqueous solution of at least one of water soluble aluminum salts, at least one of water-soluble borates, or a combination of at least one of the water-soluble aluminum salts and at least one of the water-soluble borates, and as the case may be, treated with a suitable buffering material that controls the pH value, and then dried.
