A compact planetary transmission has the discs of the clutches (12, 14) and the brakes (36, 42, 52) lined only on one side and with each lined side contacting an unlined side. The brake and clutch discs can be segmented and can have integral cooling ducts. The transmission has several planetary sets (6, 8, 10) and the clutches select one of several transmission paths as required. The design provides a range of layouts to suit different applications. |
