PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head with superior magnetic performance even if a track width becomes small. SOLUTION: In the magnetic head, a magnetic gap is formed by arranging magnetic core halves which are made up of a magnetic film which consists of soft magnetic metal material sandwiched between a pair of non magnetic substrate so that the end surfaces may counter each other. The magnetic film is constituted such that, if taking a gap of a sliding surface as a baseline, the thickness at the position deeper than the gap depth is thicker than the thickness of the magnetic film in a sliding surface. When depth from the sliding surface to a position where the thickness of the magnetic film becomes thick is set to D; gap depth is set to GD; a curvature radius of longitudinal direction of the sliding surface is set to R; and a length of longitudinal direction of the magnetic head is set to L, these factors satisfy; D>GD, and (formula 1).
