PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption due to polarity inversion of a display device having a plurality of display parts. SOLUTION: An active matrix type liquid crystal display device which has two kinds of independent screens (main screen and subscreen) is provided with a switching means which applies phase-inverted voltage waveforms to the liquid crystal driving electrodes for the main screen and subscreen, respectively, to temporarily short-circuit both electrodes in timing synchronously with polarity inversion. Consequently, the liquid crystal driving voltages of the main screen and subscreen can be shifted almost to the mid-point of the amplitude in the short circuit period without consuming electric power to save electric power without providing any extra component outside.
