PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a repellant composition which uses dissolvable glass, can efficiently elute much copper ions and can stably maintain the repelling effect for a long period, to obtain a repelling coating material, and to provide a repelling method. SOLUTION: The repellant composition is characterized by containing copper-containing phosphate glass, especially P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>-Na<SB>2</SB>O-CuO-based glass. The P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>-based glass enables the efficient elusion of the copper ions. The glass can gradually be dissolved to maintain the repelling effect, when containing CuO in an amount of 25 to 50 mol. %, and is thereby suitable for uses in repellants, repellant coating materials, and the like, used on ship bottoms, and the like.
