PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite powder which provides a good feeling in use and improves irritative feeling or roughness caused in its application by a nacreous pigment and a cosmetic containing the powder. SOLUTION: The composite powder comprises a nacreous pigment with its surface covered with barium sulfate. The powder is prepared by suspending the nacreous pigment in water and adding, to the resultant suspension, (1) an aqueous solution containing barium ions and (2) an aqueous solution containing sulfate ions, simultaneously or one after another, under agitation to precipitate barium sulfate on the surface of the nacreous pigment. Thus obtained composite powder is compounded into a cosmetic. Preferably, the nacreous pigment is mica coated with titanium oxide. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
