PURPOSE: A mechanism for preventing reverse mis shift is provided to prevent shift to a reverse range during forward driving, cut down the cost, and reduce noise by changing the structure of a gearshift lever and a cover. CONSTITUTION: A mechanism for preventing reverse mis shift comprises a gearshift lever, a lever housing, a shift lever(56), and a select lever. The gearshift lever comprises a lever shaft(52); a lever guide(53) of a hollow shape forming a skirt(54) to the lower side to prevent reverse mis shift; and a knob(55) formed integrally with the lever guide. The upper end of the lever shaft protruded to the upper side of the lever guide is inserted in the knob. The lever housing comprises a base bracket(50) fixed to a vehicle body, and a cover(51) forming a reverse restriction projection(51a) to the inner edge coming in contact with the gearshift lever, to restrict the movement of the gearshift lever to a reverse range. The cover is attached to the upper end of the base bracket. One end of the shift lever is connected to the lever shaft, to transmit the shifting-direction movement of the gearshift lever to a transmission. The select lever is connected to the lower end of the lever shaft, to transmit the selecting-direction movement of the gearshift lever to the transmission.
