The present invention relates to the use of cryptotanshinone represented by structure formula (I) or pharmaceutical compositions containing cryptotanshinone in producing medicines for preventing and alleviating Alzheimer's disease, and to prophylactic and therapeutic methods of presenile dementia using cryptotanshinone of the formula (I).
