PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera contrived to shorten the time required for detecting a focusing position by a contrast system. SOLUTION: The digital camera is equipped with a posture switching mechanism for switching the posture of a solid-state image pickup element in the case of focusing from photographing posture that the normal direction of the solid-state image pickup element is aligned with the optical axis direction of a photographic optical system to focusing posture that the normal direction of the solid-state image pickup element is inclined to the optical axis direction of the photographic optical system.
