Stretched polyester yarns for the reinforcement of elastic structures

A stretched polyester yarn (I) with increased strength and improved adhesion properties for the reinforcement of elastic articles such as tyres and conveyor belts is claimed. The yarn is treated with a composition (II) having a low water content before stretching. (II) contains an adhesion promoter that is a halogenated polyether containing at least one 2-halomethyloxyethylene unit and a 2,3-dihydroxypropyl end group and is free of epoxy groups and halohydrin groups. (II) also contains other additives such as lubricants, surfactant and/or antistatic agents. Also claimed are (i) the preparation of (I) by treatment of the yarn with (II) prior to stretching; and (ii) the composition (II).
