OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND OPTICAL DEVICE USED FOR THE OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device and an optical communication system in which an add-drop wavelength is varied if necessary.

SOLUTION: The optical device 1 is provided with a function to selectively transmit at least a wavelength beam of wavelength division multiplexing light transmitted through a network by installing an optical digital filter 2 which arbitrarily and variably sets optical frequency characteristics. The optical digital filter 2 is formed by installing an optically branching coupler 7 with a plurality of optical output terminals 17, an optically combining coupler 11 with a plurality of optical input terminals 18 and a connection part 12 connecting the respective optical output terminals 17 of the optically branching coupler 7 and the corresponding optical input terminals 18 of the optically combining coupler. The connection part 12 is formed by connecting optical attenuators 8, optical phase adjusting devices 9 and optical delay circuits 10 in series. The optical frequency characteristics of the optical digital filter 2 are arbitrarily and variably set by variably setting an optical amplitude of the optical attenuator 8 and phase variation of the optical phase adjusting device 9.
