摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methanol fuel cell which has higher methanol oxidation activity and is hard to undergo poisoning by absorbed substance. <P>SOLUTION: A ternary alloy catalyst having a composition represented by general formula (1), A<SB>x</SB>B<SB>y</SB>C<SB>z</SB>, (wherein A is Fe, Co or Ni; B is Pt or Pd, with the proviso that combinations of Co-Pd and Ni-Pd are excluded; C is at least one element selected from the group consisting of B, Bi, Sb, Sn, Ag and Pb; 2 at% &le; z &le; 30 at%; and 2/3 &le; x/y &le; 3/2) and at least partially having a crystal structure of an L<SB>10</SB>regular phase is used in a methanol electrode and/or an oxygen electrode of the methanol fuel cell. Alternatively, a quaternary alloy catalyst having a composition represented by general formula (2), A<SB>x</SB>B<SB>y</SB>C<SB>z</SB>D<SB>w</SB>, (wherein A, B, C, x, y and z have the same meanings as defined above; D is Ru; and 5 at% &le; w &le; 30 at%) and at least partially having a crystal structure of an L<SB>10</SB>regular phase is used in a methanol electrode of the methanol fuel cell. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
