PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a VoIP adapter capable of placing a call during software rewriting at software update for performance improvement of the adapter for a VoIP adapter used in a calling method VoIP to conduct calling using the Internet. SOLUTION: The adapter is provided with a monitoring unit and a rewriting permission means. The rewriting permission means prohibits software rewriting when the monitoring unit detects that it is during calling using VoIP. When the monitoring unit detects that it is not during calling using VoIP, a selector is switched to a state where a calling using a telephone network is enabled, and a calling can be done during software rewriting.
