IMAGE DECODER, IMAGE PRCOESSOR, MOVING PICTURE DISPLAY SYSTEM, PROGRAM, RECORDING MEDIUM AND IMAGE DECODING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image decoder which balances the decoding process speed with the smoothing of distortions at tile boundaries to eliminate adverse influences such as frame missing because the decoding process could not catch up with the reproduction and to suppress the distortion at the tile boundary.

SOLUTION: A mode selecting means 20 switches over an image quality priority mode and a speed priority mode. A tile boundary smoothing means 27 or 28 executes a process of smoothing the tile boundary distortion in each frame after decoding. Thus the image quality priority mode giving the image quality priority and the speed priority mode giving the speed priority are suitably selected to execute the process of smoothing tile boundary distortion, thereby balancing decoding process speed with the image quality after smoothing the tile boundary distortion. This eliminates adverse influences such as frame missing because the decoding process could not catch up with the reproduction and suppresses the distortion at the tile boundary.
