A spinning machine regulates the feed via a drafting roller delivering impulses which are computer-logged and employed to calculate and regulate the stepped lift/lowering action of a jack. A spinning machine has a control system for components which regulate thread feed. Yarn is supplied via a powered (28) drafting roller (29a). The drafting roller imparts impulses to the yarn in accordance with its length. The impulses are registered by a computer which continually calculates and commands the stepped lift/lowering movement of a ring frame (7). The change in amplitude is pref. constant. The assembly has a control console (1a) linked to the computer for textile parameters e.g. sleeve length, cop weight. Other necessary ring frame drive (6) control parameters may be permanently stored in the control unit (1).
