The closing device has a drive unit with draw cable(5) pretensioned by a tensioning device such as spiral spring (18). When opening the door the draw cable is moved against the pretensioning force relative to the drive device (9, 12) towards an opposite engagement position. When the door is opened the activated drive device moves from its rest position and engages with the draw cable which is moved in the closing direction until the door has reached its closed position. After reaching the door closing position the drive device is uncoupled from the draw cable and moved back again into its rest position so that the draw cable when next opening the door is moved again relative to the drive device.
