Universal joint, for the universal joint shaft at the drive of a rolling mill, has a joint (20) with a fork (8) where two fork arms (9) are the bearing mountings for the joint journals (21,22) and a bridge (13) links the two fork arms. The joint has a central opening (25) towards a passage (14) through the bridge. The end surfaces of the passage form two laying surfaces (16,17), along the line of an initial axis (15). A second fork (26) with two arms (28) carries the other universal joint journals, with a holding bolt (40) with adjustment along a setting axis (29) in a second base (27). The bolt head (41), towards the bridge, has a support surface (42) brought against one of the laying surfaces without engaging towards the passage in the central opening. The other end of the bolt has an adjustment section (43).
