To prevent damp damage and the development of mold at the inner side of room walls, clad with an intermediate porous wall (3), an intermediate space (5) is formed between the intermediate wall and the room wall (4). A ventilation unit (13) is used to pass air from the room (1) through the intermediate wall into the space gap. The ratio of the air flow surface of the intermediate wall to the total intermediate wall surface is 0.15-0.25. The mean air flow speed through the intermediate wall is 0.005-0.3 meters/second. The air in the space gap is passed over the inner wall surface, and extracted by suction (6) to give an air flow over the wall surface.
