The safety system, consisting of nets, ropes and cables supported by metal poles (c, e), has each pole able to pivot about one or more points along its length and has its lower end (d) connected to a damper in the form of a spring or a pneumatic or hydraulic shock absorber. The pole can pivot about a fixed support (a) with a U-shaped fork on its upper end. When a falling skier strikes the net (f) the pole is able to turn about its pivot, with its damper absorbing part of the impact energy.
