PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber grating type optical component which can reduce a clad-mode coupling loss without performing a complex design/manufacturing process. SOLUTION: The component is composed of an optical fiber 2 that contains a core layer 3 which is doped with germanium as a first material photosensitive to ultraviolet rays, a first clad layer 4 which is doped with at least one of germanium and fluorine and which covers the core layer 3, and a second clad layer 5 which covers the first clad layer 4, and a fiber grating part 10 that is formed as the periodic change along the axial direction of the optical fiber 2, in a refractive index at a prescribed part along the axial direction of the core layer 3 and the first clad layer 4 of the optical fiber 2. A coupling coefficient is designed to be nearly zero between the propagation mode propagated on the core layer 3 and the clad mode propagated through the first clad layer 4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
