PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric steering apparatus for improving steering feeling. SOLUTION: In the electric power steering apparatus, failure in a vehicle speed sensor is detected by a step S103. When the failure in the vehicle speed sensor is detected (Yes in S105), a control vehicle speed is set by a step S111 so that a vehicle speed changes from a detection vehicle speed immediately before failure by the vehicle speed sensor to a preset 300 km/h at an acceleration of 1 G. Then, a detection speed used for an assist torque determination means is substituted with the control vehicle speed concerned by a step S115. As a result, even if the vehicle speed sensor fails, assist torque is determined by a control map based on the control vehicle speed instead of the detection vehicle speed due to the vehicle speed sensor, thus improving steering feeling.
