PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular recording magnetic head in which such a problem that the recording information on a perpendicular recording medium is erased by the residual magnetic field of a recording magnetic pole after the recording, does not occurs. SOLUTION: The perpendicular recording magnetic head is constituted so as to have a contracted part of which the cross-sectional area parallel to the floating surface is reduced toward the floating surface on a main magnetic pole, and a part with unchanged width of the main pole toward the floating surface direction continuously from the position where the width of the contracted part becomes equal to the width of the main pole stipulating the recording track width on the floating surface, and also to have a part where the cross-sectional area of the surface parallel to the floating surface of the main pole is changed from the floating surface of the main pole at least once or more times in a throat part over the floating surface of the main pole from the position becoming equal to the recording track width nearest to the floating surface in the contracted part.
