PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder which always records a satisfactory image on a prescribed position of a photosensitive material without being affected by slippage of a feed position of the photosensitive material, the precision of parallelism between an optical unit 32 and a drum shaft, or the like. SOLUTION: A distance measuring means 350 is provided to measure the distance between the outside surface of a drum 31 for holding a photosensitive material P and the optical unit 32, and the position of the photosensitive material P held on the outside surface of the drum 31 is detected by the distance measuring means 350 to adjust the start timing of image recording. The focal length of a light beam from the optical unit 32 is adjusted in accordance with the measurement result of the distance measuring means 350. Further, creases caused on the photosensitive material P held on the outside surface of the drum 31 are detected by the distance measuring means 350 to perform processing of removing the creases.
