PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diazonium salt important as a synthetic intermediate for an azo dye, an analytical reagent or a material for a heat-sensitive recording material.

SOLUTION: The diazonium salt is represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R1and R2denote each independently an alkyl group or an aryl group; R3, R4, R5, R6and R7denote each independently a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom, a bromine atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, an acyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group, a cyano group, an alkylthio group, arylthio group, an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group, an amino group, an amide group or a nitro group, with the proviso that all the R3, R4, R5, R6and R7are not simultaneously hydrogen atoms; and any two of R1and R2or R3and R7may mutually be bound to form a ring).
