PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an olefin polymer obtained by using an olefin polymerization catalyst having a sufficient polymerization activity per aluminum and, simultaneously, with a negligible amount of the catalyst residue in the product. SOLUTION: A method for producing an olefin polymer comprises homopolymerization or copolymerizing an olefin with the use of the olefin polymerization catalyst composed of a reaction product to be obtained by bringing [B] a substance to be selected from the group consisting of kaolin, micas, montmorillonites, and vermiculite into contact with [C] an organoaluminum compound, and [A] a metallocene-based transition metal compound whose transition metal is selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium, and hafnium, substantially without using an aluminoxane.
