PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide 2-trifluoromethyl-4,5-dihydrooxepine useful as an intermediate or a fluoronating agent in the production of a medicine or an agrochemical, and a method for synthesizing the dihydrooxepines in good efficiency from an easily available compound as a raw material. SOLUTION: This 2-trifluoromethyl-4,5-dihydrooxepine is obtained in good efficiency by performing a reaction of 1,1-dihalogeno-3,3,3-trifluoroacetone with a 1,2-unsaturated Grignard reagent, reacting the product with an alkenyllithium and then reacting with a specific electrophilic reagent.
